What are Calibration Weight Classes?

Calibration Weight Classes will let you know the tolerance of the calibration weight you are using. There are three major governing bodies that assign classes to weights: ASTM International (Formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials), OIML (International Organization of Legal Metrology), and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). However only at Troemner, we have created an entirely new class of calibration weight, the Ultra Class Series, which meets or exceeds the common standards of ASTM, OIML, and NIST.

Below you will find all of the calibration weight classes explained, how to determine what class of calibration weight you may need, and the different calibration weight classifications.

Troemner UltraClass

Available exclusively from Troemner, these calibration weights are the most precise two-piece weights available with weight tolerances that equal or exceed comparable ANSI/ASTM E617 and OIML R 111 class tolerances. Troemner UltraClass weights are manufactured, 1 g through 20 kg, from our exclusive stainless steel, Troemner Alloy 8.

Troemner UltraClass Platinum Reference Weights - The weight tolerance is equal to ANSI/ASTM E617 Class 000 and OIML Class E0*. This high precision weight class is appropriate for calibrating microbalances and high-precision analytical balances with a readability as low as 0.0001 mg.

Troemner UltraClass Gold Reference Weights - The weight tolerance is equal to ANSI/ASTM E617 Class 00 and meets or exceeds OIML R 111 Class E1. This weight class is appropriate for calibrating microbalances and high-precision analytical balances with a readability as low as 0.001 mg.

Troemner UltraClass Reference Weights - The calibration weight tolerance is equal to ANSI/ASTM E617 Class 0 and exceeds OIML R 111 Class E2. This weight class is used as a reference standard for calibrating other reference standards and is appropriate for calibrating semi micro balances and high-precision analytical balances with a readability as low as 0.01 mg.
